Helping sailors find their passion for over fifty years in beautiful Harbor Springs, Michigan.

COVID-19 Update

Updated June 18, 2020

COVID-19 (coronavirus) is having a huge impact on youth programming around the country, and indeed around the world. The State of Michigan is slowly opening and Harbor Springs is now in phase 5 of the MI Safe Start Plan.

The LTS Board of Directors and senior staff have adapted our sailing program for Summer 2020, keeping the SAFETY of our sailors, staff and community as our top priority.  We are following guidelines set forth by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the State of Michigan, and our local health department and government.  We are referencing best practices as outlined by US Sailing and other youth programming organizations, including smaller group sessions, an emphasis on single-handed sailing, social distancing, face coverings, enhanced cleaning and hygiene practices, and health monitoring.

Limited registration for our Learn-to-Sail program remains open although there are currently waitlists for most sessions. Race Team applications for the 2020 season are now closed. Private lessons for individuals on single-handed boats and family/household groups on dinghies will start as soon as possible; please contact for sign-up information.

Our Summer 2020 Refund Policy is simple: Little Traverse Sailors will refund registration fees in full if you choose to withdraw your sailor from our program for any reason, or if we alter our sessions or are unable to operate this season.

For nearly 60 years, Little Traverse Sailors has offered a learn to sail program for youth from ages eight to eighteen on the waterfront in Harbor Springs, Michigan.  Our widely-known program is designed to build skills and a lifelong interest in the sport of sailing in a fun, safe, and supportive environment. Everything we do at LTS is geared towards making our learn to sail program a place where high-quality teaching, personal achievement, individual satisfaction, and boundless enjoyment make memories that will last a lifetime.

Although we budget carefully and strive to make our programs break even on an operational basis, our generous donors and volunteers allow us to do so much much more.  Since October 2014, Little Traverse Sailors has received cash and in-kind donations surpassing $175,000 from more than 200 families, individuals, and organizations — not to mention the countless hours that dozens of volunteers contribute to our programs.   This outpouring of generosity has enabled LTS in just the last three years to:

  • Quadruple the annual scholarship assistance
  • Purchase more than 20 new sailboats
  • Purchase two new 17ft RIB coach boats
  • Invest in a new 1700 sq. ft. floating dock system
  • Add a new J/70 to our fleet.
