The ice has left the Harbor Springs Harbor, but only fairly recently. This means that the early weeks of LTS (especially June) will feature cold water. Your LTS staff will be taking this into account in their planning and training — we probably won’t be doing many capsize drills in the mornings, for example — but our students should be prepared with the right gear to sail.
We have worked out an arrangement with our friends and supporters at the Irish Boat Shop store to offer youth sailing gear to LTS students at a 10% discount. Some items you might consider:
A spray-top: excellent for those rainy days or when water is flying!
Neoprene sailing boots: keep your feet toasty and protected while under the hiking strap.
A wetsuit (long-john or shortie version): For those days when you just know you’re going to get really wet.
A well-fitting lifejacket: a comfortable lifejacket is the key to successful small-boat sailing. In addition to the obvious safety features, a lifejacket provides warmth, impact protection, and some even have hand-warming pockets!
We encourage LTS students to ‘gear up’ prior to the season. Stop by or call the Irish Boat Shop Ship’s Store to get more information and take advantage of the LTS discount.
