Introducing the Adult Learn to Sail & Race Program

Adult LTR Photo THUMBNew for Summer 2016, the LTS Adult Learn to Sail & Race program provides adults the opportunity to get involved in sailing and racing in the fun, high-quality learning environment that LTS is famous for.  We will be offering this program on Thursday evenings (4:00-7:30pm) starting June 30 and continuing through August 18.

We’ve designed this program in response to many requests for more adult sailing opportunities in Harbor Springs. In particular, the lessons will:

  1. provide community members the opportunity to learn how to sail in a fun, social group environment;

  2. offer an introduction to basic sailboat racing techniques in a low-key, supportive way; and

  3. allow more access to sailing in Harbor Springs, one of the best sailing venues in the world.

The curriculum has been developed by and the teaching will be led by LTS Director Dan Thompson, with additional support from the LTS Coaching Staff. Sailing will be in LTS J/70s, a stable yet high-performance keelboat.  To ensure learning, we will enroll a maximum of 15 sailors per evening.

The program includes a brief on-shore introductory lesson and on-the-water drills starting at 4:00pm, and transitions into a few short, fun, and informal ‘races’ in the Harbor Springs harbor as the evening’s finale.  We will be back on shore by 7:30pm, and our friends at the Little Traverse Yacht Club will be hosting an informal barbecue on the porch thereafter.

The cost will be just $75 per evening, or $500 for the entire eight-week program. Sailors can take just one session, though we very strongly recommend multiple weeks.

For more detailed information see our Adult Learn to Sail & Race page on our website.  Registration for this program will begin in mid-April; we are limiting enrollment and anticipate the program to sell out — so be sure to register early!
