Coach Junior Racing in Harbor Springs Next Summer!
Little Traverse Sailors is seeking an experienced, enthusiastic Race Team coach for Summer 2016!
Little Traverse Sailors has operated continuously in Harbor Springs, Michigan for 60 years on the waterfront of the Little Traverse Yacht Club, the Midwest’s premier racing club. The Race Team practices daily in the spectacular sailing environment of Harbor Springs Harbor and Little Traverse Bay in our our fleet of 420s, Lasers, Bugs, and J/70s.
The LTS Race Team Coach will have primary responsibility for coaching the LTS Race Team (ages 13-20) weekday afternoons and also coach the LTS Junior Race Team in the mornings. The Coach will work with the Director and Head Instructor of LTS to plan a training program, establish a schedule, and manage bi-weekly Friday afternoon youth regattas. One of the hallmarks of the LTS Race Team program is an array of experiences, ranging from Laser and 420 dinghy training, to racing J/70s and NMs in the local one-design fleets, to racing J/105s in local big boat regattas.
Harbor Springs is one of the most beautiful sailing venues in the world, and boasts an incredibly active and diverse summer racing scene, with a weekly schedule that includes Monday & Thursday Laser and 420 Races (20+ boats on the line), Tuesday PHRF (J/70s and up), Wednesday ‘little kid’ Bug Races, and Saturday one-design racing in the local fleets of NMs, Alerion 28s, J/70s, and J/105s. And the famous LTYC UGotta Regatta in late July is perhaps the midwest’s top big-boat and one-design regatta, hosting maxis on down to J/70s.
The candidate for this position will have experience coaching junior sailors, and have a college sailing or coaching background. A passion for sailing, strong communications skills, and a desire to help us continue to develop the Harbor Springs youth racing environment are a must. US Sailing and CPR certifications are required. See our website for more details and a complete job description.
The Race Coach will be in residence in Harbor Springs from June 13 to August 23, 2016. LTS can provide housing if needed. The salary is highly competitive and commensurate with experience; it can also be significantly supplemented with work as race committee for LTYC as well as private coaching sessions throughout the summer. There will be some pre-season organizational work to be done by Skype/phone and email.
